A Foot Locker purchased alongside the uniform contained more than 900 letters written by Burl to his wife, spanning from his enlistment in 1938 to his tragic death in 1944. Upon the opening of the Foot Locker, a letter postmarked the day of Burl's death was discovered, as if Lieutenant Storey was entrusting his legacy to those who would discover it. The breakthrough came from a diligent intern from La Jolla Country Day, who uncovered a lead that connected the museum to Burl's grandson. After discussions within the family, they generously decided to allow the museum to retain and display Burl's belongings, contributing to the preservation of his memory. This decision shaped the creation of the exhibit.
